Knowing too much about a film

io9 asks what was the last movie you saw without knowing anything about it?.

Years back I used to read at least two film magazines a month (Empire and Total Film), I enjoyed them, they were interesting, but I found my enjoyment of films was going down.

By chance I picked up a DVD of The Faculty, which I’d heard was good but knew nothing about, and loved it. It dawned on me that the reason I wasn’t enjoying the film experience as much as I had was because I knew too much about the films.

Since then I’ve stopped reading the film mags and I try not to read articles or reviews of the films before I see them, I limit myself to a few trailers, which is more than enough to know if I’ll like the film. Generally it’s worked, though I do seem to have run out of films that truly excite me enough to go an see of late. My fault or Hollwood’s? I’m not sure.
