Some good articles over at The Guardian and The Telegraph ask what happened to action heroes and how Hollywood has turned to British actors to fill the roles.
The Guardian’s article about Jason Statham seems a bit off the mark after reading the other articles: Christian Bale and Gerard Butler, to name but two others, are battering their way to action hero status as well (Bale will be starring in a Terminator movie no-less, the epitome of action movies).
Having said that, most aren’t appearing in movies that were high in action and muscle flexing, while short on story. Movies like: Commando, Predator, Tango and Cash, Rambo, Universal Soldier, Kickboxer, Best of the Best and Cobra. Now those are action movies.
