I saw the price of a Blu-ray player the other day and I was shocked at how affordable it was. HD-DVD players have dropped below the £200 mark, Blu-ray is not much dearer. Now that we have HD-ready TVs in the house too it would seem ripe to move up to newer formats. What’s stopping me is the format wars (well, that and the price of an HD disc compared to a regular DVD). While there’s the possibility of one format dying out I’m a little dubious about spending the money on the hardware and rebuilding my film library if it’s going to become null an void a year from now.
