Creative Screenwriting Podcast

I managed to listen to a couple more podcasts from the guys over at Creative Screenwriting Magazine in the last couple of days, I’ve listened to a couple so far (I heard the one from the guys who wrote Transformers before I saw the movie and when I saw it all up on screen I decided they were talking a lot of crap). You don’t often hear much from screenwriters. They occasionally make it onto the DVD extras, but generally it’s all about the actors, directors, producers and other technical ‘above the line’ members of the crew. So it’s interesting to hear from some of the guys who actually turned blank pages into story.

There’s a great one from the guys behind Hot Fuzz, for example, but the one that got me fired up was from Rian Johnson, the writer/director of Brick (which has been steadily working it’s way up my list of favourite movies with each viewing, it’s a great movie, go watch it). I’ve just started the one for Luc Besson about Angel-A, which starts off talking about his first movie and is very funny (they started with a budget of $800 and used to shoot 12pm - 7pm so they had the morning to raise cash for the days shooting).

Go subscribe via iTunes if screenwriting interests you in anyway (or film making in general as many of these are from writer/directors and some give you insight into the mechanisms in place in the studios that take a movie from page to screen).
