Grindhouse to be Split

The idea of Grindhouse, the new film which consists of two segments, one directed by Robert Rodriguez, the other by Quentin Tarantino. The aim was to make a pastiche of B-movies. It was released in the US last week and only made $11 million, much less than the $20 million it was expected to make. As such, it will now be split into two separate films for overseas release, and may be re-released as two films in the US. I have to say I thought the concept was odd, but I’d have been prepared to go and see it if the segments actually sounded interesting, but they both look and sound bad.

The best part though:

The sheer length of the film has been held partly to blame, forcing cinemas to limit the number of showings. Moreover, there have been reports that many film-goers have been confused by the movie’s structure – mistakenly assuming that there was only one film on offer and leaving the cinema en-masse after the Rodriguez section.

I can’t believe people are dumb enough to walk out, maybe they should put an announcement on the screen before the start to tell people not to leave after the first one. Or, maybe the first part is bad enough people get up and leave to save enduring the second half.
