There is an article on the BBC today that there’s a race on to make the story of recently deceased ex-spy Alexander Litvinenko. Apparently:
Warner Bros has bought the rights to a yet-unpublished book [titled Sasha's Story: The Life and Death of a Russian Spy] written by Alan Cowell of the New York Times.
while:
The second film is based on the banned book former Mr Litvinenko sought to publish with historian Yuri Felshtinsky.
Interested parties in film rights to Blowing Up Russia [due for release in English 19th January] are said to include Warner Brothers and Working Title Films.
It amazes me that Hollywood is that desperate for storylines they’re hanging around newspaper offices chasing headlines like ambulance-chasing injury lawyers. They’re like a pack of circling vultures waiting for easy pickings. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had people working on life-stories of famous people on death’s door just waiting for them to pop their clogs so they can rush in and make use of the free publicity their obituary will give them.
To make matters worse they’re all so frightened of missing the next big hit, they’re shelling out ever more ridiculous sums of money to obtain the rights to things and then rushing them through production and hashing it up.
