Here’s an interesting idea, how would Shakespeare fare in the modern world of literature (via Kottke)? During his lifetime Shakespeare made more money through his stake in The Globe theatre and owning property than he did from his writing. Two schools of thought seem to suggest that either Shakespeare would be raking it in through royalties, film rights and adaptations, although he’d need a good team of lawyers for the all the plagiarism claims, or he’d be struggling along as another powerless writer in the machine.
