Bond Second Time Round

So I’ve seen Casino Royale for the second time now, how does it hold up? Very well is the answer. I was still playing spot the merchandising and realised there was even more than I saw first time round, and some is so blatant it’s jarring. I’ve decided that while I actually quite like the theme song, it’s still not a Bond theme, and the title sequence is worse second time round, but David Arnold does do a nice orchestral version as Bond’s theme which shows what it could have been.

The length certainly shows second time around, at the better part of two-and-a-half hours it seems to be suffering the same problems as Pirates of the Caribbean 2 in that the film-makers are under the impression more and longer action sequences equal a better film. ***********SPOILER ALERT**********They could certainly stand to lose the whole sequence where the African warlord turns up mid-poker game and a few other inconsequential sequences.**********SPOILER END***********

So, it’s got staying power.
