It appears the sky is no longer falling in Hollywood as the 2006 box office shows signs of recovering from a dismal 2005.
Last year’s slump was put down to a poor year of films. What’s worrying for the audience this year then, is that we seem to be going to the movies in spite of bad movies, maybe on the hope they’re better. So far I’ve seen most of the blockbusters that have been released and with the exception of Superman Returns, haven’t been at all impressed. Even POTC 2 wasn’t great, and I loved the first film. I haven’t been to see Miami Vice yet, but that’s not been getting good reviews from my friends, with complaints about it being too convulted, having too many characters and too little plot.
Interestingly, the article notes that the adult and female audience have been making their presence felt this year, where teenage boys usually make up the bulk of the market.
