Tristan & Isolde

Tristan and Isolde movie

The tagline is: ‘Before Romeo and Juliet, there was Tistan and Isolde.‘ Actually the story of Tristan and Isolde is a much older tale which bears more resemblance to the love triangle of Lancelot, Guinevere and King Arthur. Depending on the version, Tristan is in fact a member of King Arthur’s knights, second only to Lancelot in swordplay and valour. Other versions say Tristan was around before Arthurian legend, others that he was a Pictish prince. The most popular version has him as the nephew of King Mark of Cornwall. At some point Tristan travels to Ireland to fetch the future wife of the King, on the way back the pair fall in love (possibly under the influence of a love potion) and have an affair behind the king’s back. It all ends in tragedy (as these things often do).

In this version, at least from what I can see from the trailer, Tristan (played by James Franco, best known as Peter Parker’s friend in Spider-man) is wounded in battle fighting for Lord Marke (the excellent Rufus Sewell) and requests a funeral boat. He sails out and his boat is washed ashore on a deserted coastline where he is found by Isolde (played by Sophia Myles, from Underworld, Thunderbirds and From Hell). She nurses him back to health and they fall in love, but when the king’s men start searching the coast she insists he set sail again to make sure he isn’t killed. Tristan returns to his own land and is welcomed back. He volunteers to fight in a tournament to win the King Donnchadh’s daughter as a wife for Marke. Only after he has defeated all his oponents in combat does he realise the princess is Isolde. She thinks Tristan has won her only to find it is on behalf of Marke. The couple are torn, still in love, but Tristan cannot betray his uncle or the peace the marriage brings, but he cannot fight his love for Isolde and the lovers meet in secret. I’m assuming it all ends in tragedy.

The trailer looks good, with a stirring track by Evanescence, and the story has plenty of potential for love, valour and tragedy, a heady combination in the right hands. It’s directed by Kevin Reynolds, who helmed Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Waterworld and The Count of Monte Cristo, so has both romance and action in a historical setting covered.

Check out the trailer on Apple.

The qoute she reads to him or says to him when Marc is around?!?!

Because if it is the one she reads to him. Then you can Find it in The Bible. In Psalms.And I have yet to watch the movie enough to find out what he says in the end.

This movie is more tragic then romeo and juilet. For one must go on living with those stolen memories, and only those stolen memories.Romeo and Juilet Died together. So they never had to injur the pain of remembering one anothers face.

The qoute he says to her in the end is….

“You were right. Life is greater than death. But love is greater than either.””

She asks him, “If we lived in a place without duty would you live with me?” Tristan responds: “That place does not exist.”

Later Tristan tells her: “There are other things to live for: duty and honor.” Iseult(how u say it) responds: “Love is made by God. Ignore it and you suffer.”

Okay.

I’m all done with my comment qouting

A lot of people seem to be enjoying the movie (as I suspected).

Unfortunately, for us Brits at least, it’s not released in the UK until Friday 24th March, by which time the lucky Yanks will probably be able to get it on DVD.

what is the quote.. thats says something about …. why would God let us love e/a other if it were not meant to be.. what quote is that.. i need the words.. lol.. i love it.. movie rocks!

John Donne - ‘Good Morrow’

“My face in thine eyes, thine in mine appears,
And true plain hearts do in the faces rest;
Where can we find two better hemispheres,
Without sharp north, without declining west?
Whatever dies, was not mixed equally;
If our two loves be one, or thou and I.
Love so alike, that none do slacken, none can die.”

took me forever to find… but there you go! :) enjoy everyone

one of the quotes that they say is “life is better than death, but love is better than both” Or something like that.. and there is another one “You and I love so alike that none could follow, none could tie.”

…here’s another one…the movie was really awesome…more than words can ever say…….

ISOLDE : ” WHY DOES LOVING YOU FEEL SO WRONG? “

Tristan and Isolde was an amazing movie! Ive already seen it 2 times and it was worth the money i spent. Whats great about this movie tho is that its not only a chick flick, dont get me wrong a love a good chick flick like the notebook, but im the kind of girl who loves to see a good fight and bloodshed, im my opinion it makes the movie have more effect. I recommend that ne1 who hasnt seen it should go, like right now and see it!!!!!

I have a quote that’s even better….

Isolde: If this was different, if we lived in a place without duty, would you be with me?

Tristan:That Place does not exist

Isolde: I’ll pretend it’s you
