Aeon Flux

Aeon Flux

Having just read a book about a female assasin, maybe I was a little more susceptible to the trailer for Aoen Flux than I would otherwise have been. It stars Charlize Theron as, you guessed it, a female assasin. The trailer certainly storms along. It sounds a somewhat Orwellian tale and has some marked similarities to V for Vendetta (all-powerful government, people disappearing, an agent fighting back) which I also mentioned not so long ago. It’s set 400 years in the future, a future where there is only one human city left, Bregna, which consists of the people who were left after disease wiped out all but 5 million of Earth’s population. On the surface the city is an idyll, but as always, it’s merely an illusion.

The film also stars the excellent Marton Csokas (XXX, Kingdom of Heaven), Johnny Lee Miller (Hackers, Trainspotting) and Frances McDormand (Fargo). The only thing I’m a little concerned is that it has obvious comparisons to Equilibrium, a film that was far less than it could have been. The question is whether they can instill some depth to the story and reason for the villains (the endings always seem to be an anti-climax in these sorts of films). Anyway, check out the trailer on Apple.
