It’s nice to see that the mud flinging about who was to blame about the bad box office garnered by The Island has begun. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, head of DreamWork’s film division and producers of the film, basically blamed everything from the star’s lack of box office pull, the title, the concept, the marketing and the wind direction. Okay, so I made that last one up.
Maybe they should be blaming the obvious: it was a crap film. I haven’t seen it, so it’s hard to comment, but neither did I really want to go and see it, which is unusual in the blockbuster stakes. Over-produced, MTV styled, shallow films are starting to draw me less and less and maybe I’m not alone.
