The first time you hear the story of Domino Harvey, the model-turned-bounty-hunter who was the daughter of English actor Laurence Harvey, you think it must have been made up. Domino was public-school educated before becoming a DJ and designing T-shirts then turning to modelling and stage school (there have been suggestions the last two are untrue). She headed for the US in 1989 and spent some time as a ranch hand and a fire-fighter in San Diego before becoming a bounty hunter in Los Angeles. She sold her story to Hollywood and the film is due to be released later this year staring Kiera Knightley as Domino.
It has been said that Domino was unhappy with the adaptation, but that hardly matters anymore as, in one sad final twist to her short life, she was found dead in her bathtub on 27th June this year in suspicious circumstances. She was 35.
It’s a very interesting story of a very individual woman. I’m sure she wasn’t a saint, but the death of anyone at such a young age is disturbing, hopefully her name will live on through the film.
