Trailer Trawling

Another quick round-up of some trailers that caught my eye of late.

Broken Flowers
Bill Murray is back in something that doesn’t feel a million miles away from Lost in Translation (note that I said feel, it have very little other comparisons). Murray plays Don, a veritable Don Juan, who receives an anonymous letter (presumably from a previous girlfriend) telling him he has a son. Don sets of to look up all his ex-girlfriends and find his son. It’s written and directed by Jim Jarmusch. Check out the trailer.

The Brothers Grimm
Based around the famous writers of the fairytales we all grew up with, it features Matt Damon and Heath Ledger and is directed by Terry Gilliam. Sounds good already. Anyway, the brothers are set up as frauds, travelling from village to village proposing to rid them of their ghosts, ghouls and witches. What the fail to point out is that they supply the ghosts, ghouls and witches in the first place and that they extract payment for banashing them (which involves a bit of elaborate theater). Then they come face to face with a real enchanted problem, one they didn’t cause and can’t control. Check out the trailer.

The Constant Gardener
Starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz and based on the book by John le CarrĂ© the film tells the story of one man’s search for his wife’s killer. When Justin Quayle’s wife, Tessa, is found brutally murdered in northern Kenya he will stop at nothing to uncover the truth, but doing so will put his life at risk as the powers behind it try to keep it a secret. Check out the trailer.

Elizabethtown
This is new film from Cameron Crowe, starring Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst. Interestingly, it’s co-produced by Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner. Bloom plays Drew Baylor, an industrial designer at an Oregon shoe company who has just made a huge mistake that has put his company hundreds of millions of dollars in debt and has been fired. He is promptly dumped by his girlfriend. To make matters even worse, he finds out that his estranged dad just died. It’s fair to say that Drew’s life isn’t going great. He heads back to his father’s home town in Kentucky and meets flight attendant Claire (Dunst) and between his new relatives, fulfilling his father’s dying wishes and a blosoming romance with Claire, his life begins to get better. The film reminds me of Garden State, which I loved, so it should be well worth checking out. See the trailer.
