Living in Trailers

The Guardian has an interesting article on the art of making movie trailers (via Kottke). I didn’t realise that US regulations mean that the longest a trailer can be is 2-and-a-half minutes for example. Another interesting point was about the music on trailers, something I have an interest in as I seem to constantly be searching for answers to the music on trailers I’ve just seen. This quote intrigued me:

Hans Zimmer, who wrote the score for the 1995 film Crimson Tide, is estimated to have made at least 50 times more from its subsequent exploitation - in trailers for Armageddon, The Devil’s Own, Independence Day, Mulholland Falls and others - than from its original use.
