Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

The first trailer for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is up on Apple. It gives a nice taste of some of the main points from the book, but as GoF is much longer than the preceding novels, it remains to be seen how much they cut out. There is plenty of fat in the book which youc ould lose without affecting the overall story, but I’m not sure there’s enough to stop some fun and interesting scenes from being cut completely.

In general the trailer looks much more serious, which is in keeping with the book I suppose; there is a death, Voldemort finally returns to his full might, Harry finds a love interest, the Death Eaters appear, generally Harry’s world ends up being a lot more treacherous by the end of the book. I just hope they don’t loose sight of the fun and silliness that is so much part and parcel of the HP universe.

One not to be missed, but one that will inevitably disappoint fans and which will no doubt validate my hypothesis on adapting books for the screen.

Anyway, a few funny quotes to keep you amused:

Ron: “Who’re you going with then?”
Fred: “Angelina.”
Ron: “What? You’ve already asked her?”
Fred: “Good point. Oi, Angelina! Want to come to the ball with me?”

Dumbledore: “Professor Kettleburn, our Care of Magical Creatures teacher, retiredat the end of last year in order to enjoy more time with his remaining limbs.”

Harry: “I don’t know who Maxime thinks she’s kidding. If Hagrid’s a half-giant, she definitely is. Bigbones…the only thing that’s got bigger bones than her is a dinosaur.”

Ron: “Percy wouldn’t recognize a joke if it danced naked in front of him wearing Dobby’s tea cozy.”

“I was saying that Saturn was surely in a position of power in the heavens at the moment of your birth…your dark hair…your meanstature…tragic losses so young in life…I think I am right insaying, my dear, that you were born in midwinter?”
“No,” said Harry, “I was born in July.”
Ron hastily turned his laugh into a hacking cough.
