Against Cinema Advertising

The Captive Motion Picture Audience of America (CMPAA) is a society dedicated to combatting the growing trend of showing more and more adverts before a movie in cinemas.

They don’t seem to be the only people unhappy about this. There’s the Movie Theater Lawsuit Web Site, the Commercial Alert website has a section dedicated to it and the aptly named Didn’t I Already Pay for this Movie? site.

Now, I don’t object to commercial radio, I don’t object to those revolving banner ads they have before the lights go down, I like movie trailers, but I do take issue with the growing number of TV ads appearing before the trailers. I wouldn’t mind so much if they made some effort to either a) make them relevant or b) make them entertaining, but they’re just the same old boring ads you get at home. And, as pointed out, I paid money to watch the film, not more ads.
