Hitchhikers Flies Ahead

As usual, it shows how little we actually give a toss about the critics and that studios are correct to put their faith in big name fanchises, named actors and lots of publicity. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy stormed to top spot in both the UK and US box offices over the weekend.

It took a not inconsiderable £4.2 million (Thurs-Mon, £2.8 Fri-Mon) in the UK and a respectable £2.7 million in the US. Not bad going at all. I was surprised to see it doing so well in the US, I expected it to be a British thing with the American audience not really getting it, but I was wrong.

Now we just need to see if it has legs. I’ve not seen it yet, so you can add £6.50 to that right now.
