DVDs… Hybridise

It looks like the two new DVD formats, Blu-ray and HD-DVD, may become one, which would be a relief for everyone so as to avoid having differing formats to keep up to date with.

Both technologies use blue lasers to allow more storage on a standard-size DVD, 30GB in the case of HD-DVD and 50GB for Blu-ray.

There’s an interesting point raised:

“Gamers will also benefit from the next generation of discs. The storage capacity means that console titles will fit onto a single disc and the graphics will be much improved, almost film-like.”

There will definitely be a merging of the film and game worlds I think, there are too many overlaps and production is too expensive to ignore them.
